Bulk-format text: Convert paragraphs into bulleted lists.
Restructure content: Turn lists into paragraphs.
Clean up formatting: Remove stray asterisks and hashtags.
Standardize punctuation: Convert straight quotes to curly quotes.
Extract information: Pull details beyond exact keyword matches.
Apply custom instructions: Set preferences like using Arial font.
Reference Drive files: Bring in and source relevant documents.
Generate images: Create and insert images using prompts.
Listen to documents: Hear the text read aloud or summarized.
One Unexpected Downside Of All This Newfound Efficiency
I actually miss the mindless work.
We’ve all been selling the same promise, myself included: Let AI handle the tedious work so humans can focus on higher-value, more creative tasks.
But it turns out there’s something to be said for those stretches of repetitive tasks I can do on autopilot. They give my brain a chance to recover between more demanding creative assignments.
While my productivity has increased, so has the amount of time I spend operating at full mental capacity. I’m producing more high-value work, but I’m also finding it more exhausting.
As someone who regularly champions the idea that AI frees us from mundane tasks so we can focus on more meaningful work, I’m starting to question what happens when we all remove those natural breaks from our days.
